Ganja La Pass Trek: Langtang Region of Nepal

Ganja La Pass Trek can be regarded as a challenging trek in Langtang region of Nepal in comparison to the other trekking packages to the same region. It takes you along the magnificent valley of Langtang and lets you rejoice the natural elegance that the wild mountains and glaciers possess.

Furthermore, it takes you to Ganjala pass, which is the highest (5,122 meters) and the most rewarding point of this trekking journey. Ascending up to the pass is quite challenging, therefore, if you seek for adventure; a bit more than just a normal trek, then Langtang valley with Ganja La pass Trek is probably the one for you! As you cross the pass, you will be rewarded with the splendid views of Langtang lirung and other neighboring peaks.

The trail we do fallow for Ganja La Pass Trek 

Your journey starts from Syabrubensi. It is a small village in Langtang region which can be reached after around eight hours drive from Kathmandu city. From the village, we pass some villages and walk through dense forests of oak, pine, and rhododendron to Lama Hotel. We continue our trek through a forested area until Langtang village. As we march towards the village, the views of the mountains comes to our site.

Admiring the glory of mountains and wild landscape, we spend a day exploring the Langtang village. We visit Kyangjin Gompa and walk up to the Tserko Ri for stunning views of the valley along with mountains surrounding it. Further, we head towards Ganja La Phedi and cross the pass which is a challenging task of the trek. Though challenging, the views from the pass are worth it. Leaving the pass, we descend down through pastures and pass villages like Tarke Gyang and Sermathang to Melamchi Pul bazaar.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu

Nepal Intrepid Treks will be your dedicated travel companion until you return to your home country. Once you arrive at Kathmandu airport, we will be there to pick you up and take you to your hotel. Accommodation for our valued customers includes room and breakfast in a three star hotel in Kathmandu.

 

Take in the impressions of Nepal as we drive you from the airport to your hotel. We will assist you with the check-in and provide you with further information regarding your Trek. You may then have a rest or stroll through the bustling, colourful streets and alleys of Kathmandu.

Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley

Prepare for a day of immersion into the Nepalese culture, while visiting the most important landmarks of this fascinating city and its outskirts. Our experienced guide will take you to Kathmandu Durbar Square, a UNESCO heritage site which represents the political and historical values of Nepalese civilization.

 

We then proceed to Swayambhu Nath Temple, also known as ‘Monkey Temple’ thanks to its adorable colony of monkeys that run free. This temple is the symbol of harmony between Buddhists and Hindus.  At the top of the stupa you will have a splendid birds-eye view of Kathmandu Valley and its surroundings.

 

We continue to the sacred Pashupatinath Temple, a holy place for Hindu devotees. Especially interesting is the holy cremation area where preparations and daily cremation ceremonies take place. From here we return to the hotel.

Day 03: Drive to Syabru Besi

Enjoy your breakfast at the hotel. Your guide will pick you up at the hotel and escort you to the vehicle which will take you to the Syabru Besi. We drive north-west to Kathmandu enjoying the views of lush hills and terraced farmlands until we reach Syanbru Besi. Spend your night at a guesthouse in Syabru besi. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 04: Trek to Lama Hotel

We start our actual trekking journey from today. We follow our trail and start walking on our own pace. Slowly, our trail ascends up through a forest until we reach Bamboo village. We stop for our lunch here and rest for a while. We continue our path through a well paved forested area watching the birds fly and enjoying the pristine forest environment. We can see the bee hives, birds nest and small animals like squirrels running here and there. We climb up through the bamboo forest until we reach Lama hotel. We stay at a guesthouse for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 05: Trek to Lantang village

Leaving Lama Hotel, we continue walking through the rhododendron and pine forest along a pleasant path until we reach Ghoda Tabela. The literal meaning of Ghoda Tabela in English literature is horse stable. We stop at Ghoda Tabela for lunch and explore the area as we rest for a while. We can see dense wild habitat and herbal plants around this area. We leave Ghoda Tabela and walk for around three hours through a scenic path that takes us to Langtang village. We stop at a guesthouse in Langtang village for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 06: Trek to Kyangjin Ri and back to Kyangjin Gompa

Our trail climbs up gradually through small villages and yak pastures until a valley opens up. We cross Laja Khola and climb up a moraine to get a view of Kyangjin Gompa and an icefall that flows from Langtang Lirung. From here the views of gompa and icefall are outstanding. We can also get a view of snow capped mountains like Ganjala, Langtang Lirung, Tserko Ri and Langsisa Ri. As we reach Kyangjin gompa, we hike up to Kyangjin Ri and trek back to gompa. We spend our night at a guesthouse in the gompa. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 07: Hike to Chokari Ri

Today is a leisure day in the Langtang valley. We spend our day exploring around the gompa. We visit the cheese factory and monastery in Langtang valley. We then hike up to Chokari Ri which offers and excellent views of icefalls and mountains. Chokari Ri at 5050 metres is the highest point of Langtang Gosaikunda Lake trek. In the evening, we descend down to the gompa for overnight stay (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 08: Trek to Ganja La phedi

Today, we leave Kangjin gompa and lead towards the Ganja Phedi. As we march forward, we come across the Langtang river. We cross the river and ascend up through the rhododendron forests until we reach Ganja La phedi. The walk for the day is pleasing as we walk through the dense rhododendron forest until we reach the flat area at Ganja La phedi. We spend our night at Ganja La phedi. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 09: Cross Ganjala Pass and trek to Keldang

Today is an exciting and adventurous day of our journey. We will we crossing Ganja La pass which is considered as a technically difficult pass as it is covered with snow throughout the year. We make a long ascent up and cross the pass admiring the beautiful views of mountains and Langtang valley. After crossing the pass, we descend down to Keldang. On the way we come across a beautiful pond in Keldang Kharka. We spend our night at a guesthouse in Keldang. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 10: Trek to Yak Kharka

As we leave Keldang, we continue our walk gradually through beautiful grassland. We then descend down through the forests and lush environment to Yak Kharka. Our walk for the way would be pleasing with few ups and downs. We spend our night at a guesthouse in Yak Kharka. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 11: Trek to Tarkeghyang

Moving ahead with our journey, we leave Yak Kharka and head towards Tarkeghyang. At first our trail descends down to some point and then again starts ascending up to the village of Tarkeghyang. We descend down through the forests of rhododendron, pine and oak and then ascend up along a beautiful path with some rewarding views of Langtang, Ganesh and Jugal Himal. We stop at a guesthouse in Tarkeghyang for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 12: Trek to Shermathang

Continuing through our trail, we cross a small forest admiring the views of beautiful Helambu region. We sweep around the wide valley and walk ahead until we pass the villages of Parachin and Gangyul. The people living in this villages practice Drukpa Kagyu Buddhism, which is a unique religion practiced by the people in Bhutan. We continue ahead until we reach Shermathang and stay at a guesthouse in the village for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 13: Trek to Melamchi pul bazaar to Kathmandu

Today we leave Shermathang and continue walking until we reach Melamchi Pul Bazaar. The Sherpa village in the bazaar is appealing which will give us an insight on unique Sherpa culture and lifestyle. We catch our vehicle from the bazaar that will take us to Kathmandu. We spend our night at a hotel in Kathmandu. (Breakfast included)

Day 14: Farewell

After this wonderful adventure, it’s finally time to bid you a farewell. We will pick you up from the hotel and escort you to the airport for your journey home! We hope with all our hearts that we served you well and look forward to seeing you or your friends again someday.
