Tamang Heritage Trek: The Cultural Tour

Tamang Heritage Trek is a pleasing journey that takes you to the scenic green midlands of Langtang through a newly opened trekking route in between Langtang and Ganesh Himal. The trial of this trek is culturally rich and passes through various charming villages like SyabruBensi, Gatlang, Tatopani, Thuman, and Buddhism. Tamang Heritage Trek is a bit more than just a natural exploration.

This opportunity allows us to immerse ourselves in the culture, religion, and daily lifestyle of the Tamang community. They provide valuable insights into their way of life. Furthermore, the Tamang community predominantly populates the Langtang region. Moreover, the local inhabitants have been residing here and preserving their own unique culture, religion, tradition, and dialect. Hence, Tamang Heritage Trail Trek is a cultural tour. It helps us encounter an ancient lifestyle of the indigenous people inhabited in the Langtang region.

Way we do follow for Tamang Heritage Trek

Tamang Heritage Trek commences from Syabrubensi which is about 8 hours drive from the Kathmandu city. As we march forward, we pass villages like Galtang, Tatopani, Thuman, Timur, Briddhim and back to Syabrubensi. Furthermore, the Tamang community predominantly populates the villages through which we traverse. Moreover, we can also see people of Magar and Tibetan society. Moreover, the residents of these areas actively participate in farming and animal husbandry.

In addition, the people are very creative as they are engaged in basket weaving, wood carving and making other handicraft items like traditional caps, mufflers, etc. The residents residing here expose us to the exceptionally unique culture and lifestyle of the Tamang Heritage Trail Trek. They have their own unique rituals, culture, festivals, dialects, traditional architecture, costumes and local dances. At Golijung and Gatlang VDCs, you can enjoy the traditional dances –performed by the local people.

On the way, somewhere in between the Tamang Heritage treks , we come across Goljung Pass which is a perfect viewpoint for outstanding views of Langtang and Kerung. Just before Nagthali, you can enjoy the hot bath in the healing hot-water spring at Tatopani. And moving ahead to Thuman, you can see ancient monasteries and houses with beautiful wood carvings. The night stay at the guesthouses in Tamang villages throughout the trek will offer you an opportunity to experience the warm hospitality of people residing there.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu

Nepal Intrepid Treks will be your dedicated travel companion until you return to your home country. Once you arrive at Kathmandu airport, we will be there to pick you up and take you to your hotel. Accommodation for our valued customers includes room and breakfast in a three star hotel in Kathmandu.

Take in the impressions of Nepal as we drive you from the airport to your hotel. We will assist you with the check-in and provide you with further information regarding your trek. You may then have a rest or stroll through the bustling, colorful streets and alleys of Kathmandu.

Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley

Prepare for a day of immersion into the Nepalese culture, while visiting the most important landmarks of this fascinating city and its outskirts. Our experienced guide will take you to Kathmandu Durbar Square, a UNESCO heritage site which represents the political and historical values of Nepalese civilization.

We then proceed to Swayambhu Nath Temple, also known as ‘Monkey Temple’ thanks to its adorable colony of monkeys that run free. This temple is the symbol of harmony between Buddhists and Hindus. At the top of the stupa you will have a splendid birds-eye view of Kathmandu Valley and its surroundings.

We continue to the sacred Pashupatinath Temple, a holy place for Hindu devotees. Especially interesting is the holy cremation area where preparations and daily cremation ceremonies take place. From here we return to the hotel.

Day 03: Drive to Syabru Besi

Enjoy your breakfast at the hotel. Your guide will pick you up at the hotel and escort you to the vehicle which will take you to the Syabru Besi. We drive north-west to Kathmandu enjoying the views of lush hills and terraced farmlands until we reach Syanbru Besi. Spend your night at a guesthouse in Syabru besi. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 04: Syabru Besi to Galtang

We leave Syabru Besi and ascend up for around an hour and half to a vantage point from where we can get some outstanding views of Ganesh Himal, Gosaikunda range and Goljang valley. Applauding the beauty from the point, we descend down for an hour until we reach Galjang valley. We follow the trail and walk for around three hours to a Tamang village called Galtang. You can enjoy warm greetings from local people with homemade local drink and local songs in Galtang. Stay at a guesthouse in Galtang for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 05: Galtang to Tatopani

Leaving Galtang, we head towards Tatopani which is quite popular for the natural hot water springs it possesses. Today would be the longest day of our journey however a bath in the hot water spring at Tatopani would act as an ailment to soothe away all the pains and tiredness. At first, we descend down to Thangbuchet (a place near Chilime village). We can see the Chilime Hydropower Dam at Bhotekoshi river from this place. As we enjoy our lunch, we ascend up to cross a hanging bridge to Tatopani. We stay at a guesthouse in Tatopani for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 06: Tatopani to Thuman

Today, we follow our trail that ascends up to Nagthali Danda, open grassland that offers some fascinating views of snow clad mountains. We pass Brindang village on the way and continue ascending up to Nagthali danda. We leave the Danda and descend down to Thuman village. Thuman village is beautiful Tamang village with Tibetan influenced Buddhist culture. Therefore, we can find the influence of Tibetan Buddhistculture in this place. The people in this place are fun loving. We can see them singing and dancing in the evening in their own language. We spend our night at a guesthouse in Thuman. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 07: Thuman to Timur

We continue with our journey and head towards Timur which is an old trade route to Tibet. In the remembrance of Nepal Tibetan relationships, there is a fort set up here which is a historical reminder of a good relation between people of the area and Tibet that has existed since many centuries. We stay at a guesthouse in Timur for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 08: Timur to Briddim

Today, we leave Timur and head towards Briddhim which is a Tibetan Buddhist village that lies in the foothill of Lantang Himal. There are around forty three houses in the village made up of stones that are spread in Z shape. The village consists of ancient Tibetan immigrants which have led to the influence of Tibetan culture in this area. The culture and tradition in Briddim village resembles with that of the Tibetan villages. We stay at a guesthouse in Briddim for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 09: Briddim to Syabru Besi

Today, we descend down to Syabru Besi. We walk for around three hours and pass various Tamang villages on the way to Syabru besi. As we walk through the trail, we will be blessed with the magnificent views of lush hills and Himalayas. We stay at a guesthouse in Syabru Besi for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 10: Syabru Besi to Kathmandu

Today, we take a vehicle at Syabru bensi and drive for around eight hours along a lush scenic path to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, we check into the hotel and rest for the while. We spend our night at a hotel in Kathmandu. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 11: Farewell

After this wonderful adventure, it’s finally time to bid you a farewell. We will pick you up from the hotel and escort you to the airport for your journey home! We hope with all our hearts that we served you well and look forward to seeing you or your friends again someday.
