Tharpu Chuli Peak climbing

The peak also referred to as Tent Peak at an elevation of 5663 meters is a popular peak for peak climbing experience. Tharpu Chuli peak climbing takes you to the northwestern region of Nepal and lets you relish the glory of lush landscapes and mountains in that region. This climbing takes you to the Annapurna Base Camp which is often considered as a natural paradise. From the base camp, the climbing journey goes all the way to Tharpu Chuli Base Camp and then to the summit of the Tharpu Chuli. Lying in the heart of Annapurna Sanctuary, Tharpu Chuli was nicknamed by Jimmy Roberts, leader of a British expedition team in 1956.

Beginning of the Tharpu Chuli Peak climbing

The climbing starts with a short drive from the capital city of Kathmandu to Pokhara along a scenic route. A short drive from Pokhara to Nayapul takes you to the actual starting point of our climbing journey. We start walking along the foothills of Annapurna and pass various farmlands, villages, and forests in between. We pass Tikhedhunga, Ghorepani, Poonhill, Tadapani, Chomorong, Dovan, and Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp.

Moreover, from the base camp, you can get some outstanding views of the mountains in the Annapurna region. It includes Mt. Annapurna I, II, III, IV, Annapurna South, Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Nilgiri, Mt. Machhapucchre, and many more. Starting with the Annapurna Base Camp, we move forward to Tharpu Chuli Base Camp relishing the glories of apex-touching mountains. From the base camp, we climb up the peak and descend the same path to Pokhara. 

The walk up to the base camp goes through various ethnic settlements and diverse villages. You can get some insights into people, their culture, customs, and practices. Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu

Nepal Intrepid Treks will be your dedicated travel companion until you return to your home country. Once you arrive at Kathmandu airport, we will be there to pick you up and take you to your hotel. Accommodation for our valued customers includes room and breakfast in a three star hotel in Kathmandu.

Take in the impressions of Nepal as we drive you from the airport to your hotel. We will assist you with the check-in and provide you with further information regarding your Mera Peak Climbing. You may then have a rest or stroll through the bustling, colorful streets and alleys of Kathmandu.

Day 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing and trek preparation

Wake up for an exciting day as your guide will escort you to the UNESCO listed heritage sites in Kathmandu. The tour today is all about art, culture, and history that Nepal possesses. Visit Kathmandu Durbar Square. Kathmandu Durbar Square is an ancient palace built by the Malla kings of Nepal. The palace is grand and artistic. Authentic architecture has been designed in the pillars, windows, and building of the palace. The palace is surrounded by various small temples. After exploring the palace and the museum, we head towards Swayambhunath stupa, Pashupatinath temple, and Boudhanath Stupa. The day can be an enlightenment of Hindu and Buddhist culture. If you have any left out preparation for the trek, you can arrange it today. Stay at your hotel in the evening. (Breakfast included)

Day 3: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara

Today we take a ride along a scenic route through Trisuli river to Pokhara. The lush hills, rivers, forests and countryside view on our way is fascinating. Pokhara is considered as a gateway to the trail that takes us to the Annapurna massif. Annapurna region possesses five mountains over 7200m and is home to some popular mountains like Annapurna, Macchapucchre and many more. As you arrive in the Pokhara, check in to the hotel and stroll around the Pokhara valley. Visit Lakeside which is a popular destination in Pokhara. The majestic views of mountains, lake, and the colorful boats will make the whole environment inspiring. Spend your night at a hotel in Pokhara. (Breakfast included)

Day 4: Drive to Nayapul and trek to Tikhedhunga

After our breakfast in the morning, we drive towards Nayapul. Nayapul is a village near Pokhara. It takes about an hour to reach Nayapul. Nayapul is the starting point of our trek. As we initiate our trek, we head Birethanti that lies on the opposite side of the Modi Khola. We further follow our trail on the north bank of the Hurungdi Khola up to Sudame Village. From the village, our trail winds up with a steady climb up to the Hille Village. We further ascend up from Hille village to Tikhedhunga. Stay at a guesthouse in Tikhedhunga for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 5: Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani

Today, we cross Burungdi River and climb up steep until we reach Ulleri. Ulleri is a large village inhabitant by the people of Magar ethnicity. As we climb up, our trail leads us through pastures and cultivated fields with a fascinating view of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli. As we move up following our trail, we can see the peaks of Annapurna South and Hiuchuli that begin to merge behind the hills, giving the peaks an outstanding view. We continue walking deep through the rhododendron and oak forests to Banthanti. We further walk for around three hours to reach Ghorepani, our stop for the day. We stay at a guesthouse in Ghorepani. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 6: Hike up to Poon hill and descend down to Tadapani

An exciting day of our journey! We wake up early in the morning and hike to Poon Hill for the mesmerizing sunrise views from amongst the peaks in Annapurna range. As we reach Poon Hill, we will be rewarded with the outstanding views of mountains like Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Fishtail, and other peaks in the Annapurna region. The golden sun rising above the white pinnacles of a mountain is a pleasing experience to behold. After collecting enough memories from the vantage point, we descend down to Ghorepani and treat ourselves with a delicious breakfast. We further descend down to Tadapani which would be our stop for the night. Overnight at a guesthouse in Tadapani (Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included)

Day 7: Tadapani to Chomrong

Leaving Tadapani, we descend down steep through the forests until we reach a village of Chomrong. Chomrong is a small Gurung village that lies on our way to Annapurna Base Camp. Overnight at a guesthouse (Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included)

Day 8: Chomrong to Dovan

Our trails for the day starts with a steep descent down to Chomrong Khola. From the river, we slowly ascend up to Khuldighar. As we pass ACAP check post at Khuldighar, we continue our trail that goes descending down to Dovan. Overnight at a guesthouse (Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included)

Day 9: Dovan to Deurali

We start our trek with a short climb along with the bamboo shade which is followed by a walk along rhododendron forest to Hotel Himalaya. From the hotel, we continue or trail to Hinko from where our trail ascends up to the ridge of Hinko called Deurali. We stop at Deurali for an overnight stay. (Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included)

Day 10: Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp

Finally the day has come when we can retreat our eyes with the full glory of Annapurna Sanctuary. We can find the lateral moraine of Annapurna glacier in front of us and Modi Khola to our right. We pass Machapuchhre base camp and then continue to Annapurna base camp. The 360 degree panorama of the peaks from this point is truly awesome. All we can do is turn round and round to capture the beauty of Annapurna I, Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna, Machapuchhre, Annapurna South and many more mountains. Overnight at a guesthouse in base camp (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 11: Acclimatization day at base camp

Today we spend our day in the base camp exploring the beauty of mountains and the mountainous terrain. As we move up in the higher elevation region, proper acclimatization becomes a must. Therefore, as a part of acclimatization, we spend our day at the Annapurna Base Camp. we will be blessed with rewarding views of mountains in Annapurna Sanctuary throughout the day. Overnight at a guesthouse in base camp (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 12: Trek to Tharpu Chuli peak base camp

Today, we leave Annapurna Base Camp and head towards the Tharpu Chuli peak base camp. We get inside the Annapurna Sanctuary towards the base camp. as we get close to the Tharpu Chuli peak base camp, the peak of Tharpu chuli looks more closer and clearer. Upon arrival in the base camp, we set up our tents for overnight stay in the base camp. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 13: Trek to high camp

Leaving the Tharpu Chuli Base Camp, we head towards the Tharpu Chuli High Camp. It is our first step for climbing up the peak. We use our few climbing gears today. Upon arrival, we set up our camps for overnight stay. At the end of the day, we prepare for our climbing gears tomorrow. We also take some climbing lessons from our climbing leader. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 14: Summit the Tharpu Chuli peak and back to base camp

Today is the most important day of our climbing journey as we summit the peak of Tharpu Chuli. Leaving high camp, we start climbing along a well-defined ridge with the help of a rope fixed on the ridge. We climb up the snowy slope which is quite steep and technical. However, we follow our leader and climb up the ridge with the help of axe and ropes. After conquering the peak and beholding the glory of Annapurna region, we descend down to Base Camp for the night. Overnight at a tented camp set in the base camp. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 15: Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo

In the morning, we relish the views of Annapurna panorama once again. The moment of being there amidst the mountains is truly revitalizing. After having enough of exploration in the base camp, we descend down to Modi Khola. We stop at Bamboo for the night. (Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included)

Day 16: Bamboo to Jhinu Danda

Today, we retrace our journey back to Chomrong. From Chomrong, we descend down steep through rhododendron and bamboo forests until we reach Jhinu Danda. Enjoy natural hot water bath at Jhinu Danda. Stay at a guesthouse in Jhinu Danda for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 17: Jhinu Danda to Pokhara

We further retrace our journey back to Nayapulvia Nagethanti and Birenthanti. From Nayapul, we drive back to Pokhara. Overnight at a hotel in Pokhara (Breakfast and lunch included)

Day 18: Pokhara to Kathmandu

From Pokhara, we drive along the same scenic route through the banks of Trishuli river to Kathmandu. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu (Breakfast included)

Day 19: Farewell

After eighteen days of togetherness in the Annapurna region of Nepal for Tharpu Chuli peak climbing, it’s finally time to wrap up our travel journey! You will be escorted to the airport for your journey ahead. Hope you had a good time with us!
