Journey to Mera peak climbing

Mera peak climbing journey starts with a stimulating flight to a dramatic location in Nepal to Lukla. Then we take a another route of Everest Base Camp Trek from Lukla to Zatrabok via Zatrawala Pass. From the pass, we can enjoy some outstanding views of mountains like KongdiRi, NumburHimal and Karyolang peak. Leaving the pass, we walk through rhododendron and juniper forest to the valley of Hinku.

Moreover, the peak of Kusum Kanguru looks absolutely amazing from this valley. We then traverse through Tangmang and Khare to Mera Peak Base Camp for Mera peak climbing. From Base Camp, we walk up to high camp and finally climb the peak. After achieving the summit, we retrace our steps through the same path to Lukla airport.

Day 01: Arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu

Nepal Intrepid Treks will be your dedicated travel companion until you return to your home country. Once you arrive at Kathmandu airport, we will be there to pick you up and take you to your hotel. Accommodation for our valued customers includes room and breakfast in a three star hotel in Kathmandu.

Take in the impressions of Nepal as we drive you from the airport to your hotel. We will assist you with the check-in and provide you with further information regarding your Mera Peak Climbing. You may then have a rest or stroll through the bustling, colorful streets and alleys of Kathmandu.

Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley

Prepare for a day of immersion into the Nepalese culture, while visiting the most important landmarks of this fascinating city and its outskirts. Our experienced guide will take you to Kathmandu Durbar Square, a UNESCO heritage site which represents the political and historical values of Nepalese civilization.

We then proceed to Swayambhu Nath Temple, also known as ‘Monkey Temple’ thanks to its adorable colony of monkeys that run free. This temple is the symbol of harmony between Buddhists and Hindus. At the top of the stupa you will have a splendid birds-eye view of Kathmandu Valley and its surroundings.

We continue to the sacred Pashupatinath Temple, a holy place for Hindu devotees. Especially interesting is the holy cremation area where preparations and daily cremation ceremonies take place. From here we return to the hotel.

Day 03: Flight to Lukla (2,850m) and trek to Chhutnaga (3500m) – 3/4 hours

From the domestic terminal of Kathmandu airport you will take a flight to Lukla– a thrilling experience owning to the dramatic location of its airport. During the flight, you will get some stunning views of mountains arranged like a row of thorns. At Lukla airport, you will take your first step in the Khumbu region of Nepal, home to the highest peak in the world – Mt. Everest.

From Lukla, your guide will lead you along the trail, while passing countless prayer wheels, which you can spin clockwise to activate the mantra’s that are written on the scrolls. We trek continue all the way up to Chhutanga. Overnight stay at a guesthouse in PhakdingChhutanga (breakfast, lunch and dinner included).

Day 04: Trek to Zatrabok (4200m) via Zatrawala Pass (4600m) – 6 hours

We cross Chutok La Pass and leave Chutenga behind as we continue our journey towards Zatrabok. We ascend up steeply and cross the Zatrawala Pass enjoying the majestic views of mountains on our sight namely KongdiRi, NumburHimal, Karyolang peak and many more. We stay at a guesthouse in Zatrabok for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 05: Trek to Kothe (3500m) – 6 hours

We descend down steep along a trail that leads us to juniper and rhododendron forests. We walk under the shade of forests enjoying the views of mountains until we reach the village of Kothe. We spend our night at a guesthouse in Kothe. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 06: Trek to Tangnang (4200m) – 5 hours

Leaving Kothe, we move deep into Hinku valley and continue our trail that ascends up until we reach Tangnang. The spectacular view of Kusum Kanguru that comes in to our sight throughout our journey is amazing. We spend our night at a guesthouse in Tangnang. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 07: Acclimatization in Thangang

We have set a day from acclimatization in Tangnang to cope ourselves with the gain in elevation. Today, we explore round the village which would be an awesome opportunity to get acquainted with locals, their culture and tradition. The picturesque view of mountains and glaciers from this place is magnificent. In the evening, we return back to guesthouse for overnight stay. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 08: Trek to Khare (5000m) – 4/5 hours

We continue our journey and ascend up to the lateral moraine of a glacier. The top of the glacier offers an amazing view of Mera peak. Beholding the beauty of the peak, we move ahead until we reach Khare. We stay at a guesthouse in Khare for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 09: Acclimatization day in Khare and Ice Climbing practice Day

This is another day set aside for acclimatization. This day, we keep ourselves at ease. We check our gears and equipment. We take a brief lesson from our climbing instructor and roam around the place for rest of the while. We stay at a guesthouse in Khare for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 10: Trek to High Camp (5800m) – 6/7 hours

We leave the Khare and climb up above to High camp enjoying the views of mountains like Chamlang, Baruntse, Makalu, Lhotse, Everest, AmaDablam, Cho – Oyu and many other mountains on our sight. As we reach the high camp, we set up our tents and prepare for our night stay in the high camp. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 11: Summit the Mera peak (6476m) and return back to Khare – 8/9 hours

We start our climbing journey early in the morning at around 2 a.m. As the weather at the top will be windy and stormy, we put our efforts to start as early as possible. Fuelling ourselves with breakfast, we put on our ropes and start climbing following the instructions of our climbing leader. After four to six hours climb along the sloppy area, we summit the peak. The view of mountains like Mt. Everest, Cho-Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Nuptse and many other neighbouring peaks from this point is spectacular. We relish the beauty of Everest region to its best and retrace our step down to the Mera High Camp. We further descend down to Khare for overnight stay. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 12: Reserve day for contingency

We have set aside a reserve day in case of any contingencies. No one knows what might happen in high altitude. Sometimes the weather may not favour us while sometimes our health may not favor us due to altitude sickness. Therefore, in case you were unable to attempt peak climbing.

Day 13: Trek down to Kothey (3500m) – 5 hours

Returning back to Khare from the Mera peak base camp, we maintain our distance from the mountains and start descending down to Tangnang. Leaving Tangnang, we move ahead until we retrace our journey back to Kothey. We stay at a guesthouse in Kothey for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 14: Trek to Zatrabok (4200m) – 6 hours

Enjoying the alpine vegetation and rhododendron forests, we retrace our journey back to Zatrabok. We stay at a guesthouse in Zatrabok for the night. (Breakfast lunch and dinner included)

Day 15: Trek to Lukla (2850m) – 6 hours

Leaving Zatrabok, we ascend up to Zatrawala pass. The view of mountains and glaciers from this point is fascinating. Beholding the beauty of Everest region, we descend down to the village of Chutenga. We descend continue to the same trail with the views of mountains like Number Himal, Kongdi Ri and Karyolang peak on our site. We spend our night at a guesthouse in Lukla.

Day 16: Fly Back to Kathmandu

Today you bid a goodbye to the Khumbu region of Nepal. After so many highlights, such an exhilarating experience and so much beauty this region has showed you, you will take a flight back to Kathmandu from Lukla airport. Upon your arrival, you will be escorted to your hotel in Kathmandu. The rest of the day is at your convenience, whether you want rest or just wander around. Overnight stay at the hotel (breakfast included). Spend this day at your leisure in or around Kathmandu. You can take one of our optional day trips, relax or roam around Kathmandu city. Perhaps go for a massage – you deserve it – or do some last-minute shopping. Take a leisurely lunch in one of the many tea gardens or dine on one of the rooftop terraces. Overnight stay at the hotel (breakfast included).

Day 17: Leisure Day in Kathmandu

Spend this day at your leisure in or around Kathmandu. You can take one of our optional day trips, relax or roam around Kathmandu city. Perhaps go for a massage – you deserve it – or do some last-minute shopping. Take a leisurely lunch in one of the many tea gardens or dine on one of the rooftop terraces. Overnight stay at the hotel (breakfast included).

Day 18: Farewell

After this wonderful adventure, it’s finally time to bid you a farewell. We will pick you up from the hotel and escort you to the airport for your journey home! We hope with all our hearts that we served you well and look forward to seeing you or your friends again someday.
